Disklabs KS1 Key Shield – Simple, Sleek and well made.

The Disklabs KS1 Key Shield is a fantastic faraday bag, but it costs a little more that some competitors. So, is it worth the extra cash?

Who Are Disklabs? Are They Trustworthy?

A BBC Segment on Disklab’s Great Faraday Bags and how they protect keyless cars.

Today we will be looking at the Disklabs Key Shield (KS1) Faraday Bag, one of the best selling RFID blocking devices in the UK. But who are Disklabs, what do they do and can we trust them to secure one of our most prized possessions?

Disklabs are primarily known for their police approved security products and services, from Digital forensics to secure data erasure. The fact that they are trusted by so many local authorities makes them a brand you can truly depend on to protect your vehicle, but this status does come at a premium.

The KS1 Faraday bag costs a good bit more than many competing products, but at around £25, it’s one of the best deals on the market when looking to secure your keyless entry car in my opinion.

Think about it – your keyless entry vehicle likely costs at least a thousand times more, so I consider it to be a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with the extra peace of mind it offers.

Disklabs Key Shield Review – Is The Disklabs KS1 Police Approved?

This is absolutely essential when I’m looking to pick up a security product. The secured by design award, or “police preferred specification” is absolutely worth looking for when looking for any kind of security product. The Disklabs KS1 is manufactured to police approved specification right here in the UK.

Disklabs Key Shield Review – Key Specs And Features

Fundamentally, the Disklabs Key Shield is a very simple but effective product, so this won’t be a particularly long ramble. The KS1 is sized in a way that should fit two key fobs in, although this of course depends on the size of the fobs. The keys are secured by placing them in the faraday pouch and then folding the top down, which is secured by a Velcro-like material.

The KS1 by Disklabs has been designed specifically for use with key fobs unlike many alternatives which are intended more for phones and other devices, and it’s clear to see they have thought long and hard about exactly what concerned car owners are after.

At around 12 by 10 centimetres when closed, you can easily keep your keys in the bag in your pocket, so even when you are out and about you can have the peace of mind of knowing that the threat of relay theft to your keyless car is almost entirely eliminated.

The lining of the KS1 is made from genuine faraday material, which means that the signal blocking capabilities this bag offers is essentially the best money can buy. The outer material hasn’t been scrimped on either, with a hard wearing canvas-like fabric that can withstand daily wear and tear from being in the likes of jeans pockets and backpacks.

Disklabs KS1 Review – Testing

For my main vehicle, the KS1 does the job superbly. Stick the key in the bag, and the door simply won’t open (until you take the key out of the bag). When yours is delivered, you can test it’s effectiveness in seconds – just put your key fob/s in the bag and then try to open the door to your car. The complete signal blocking properties of the KS1’s inner lining should mean that it blocks all keyless car fobs from working when they are secured in the faraday bag, but it’s still always worth quickly checking it works to be safe.

Disklabs Key Shield Review – Durability

This bag is durable and well made. With a little bit of care the bag should easily last a good few years and still work just as effectively. The one tip I will mention is if you want the Disklabs Key Shield to last for a long time then please make sure that you only put the fob itself in the bag – house keys and other sharp object will naturally wear the inner lining down quicker when you’re out and about and they rub against the inner lining.

If you don’t fancy doing that, you will probably be absolutely fine, but just make sure to routinely check the bag still works and you haven’t worn all the way through the faraday material.

Verdict – The Disklabs KS1 Key Shield Is The Best Faraday Bag on the Market.

I would have to say yes, it’s the best, if you are willing to part with the extra £15 or so over some of the other cheaper alternatives such as the defender signal blocker. It’s spacious, built to last, made in the UK and designed to meet the stringent requirements that “Secured by Design” put in place, to make sure that the faraday bag you’re buying really is the best of the best.

There might be some more stylish, handsome alternatives but trust me on this one – a vast majority of them are absolutely NOT made to police preferred specification, so although they might look sleek and in-fitting with your Range Rover, whether it’s worth compromising the security by not opting for the KS1 is up to you.

And with that, thanks for reading my review of this great little faraday bag. If you have any questions leave a comment and I shall try to get back to you as soon as I can.
