Ring Doorbells. We all have them, and many of us can’t live without them. The main issue facing many Ring Doorbell owners is that by default, they are simply clipped onto a mount on the outside of the house. This makes them vulnerable to being stolen, particularly if you have a wireless one. Luckily there are a couple of ingenious workarounds to physically secure a Ring Doorbell, whether you live in a house or apartment, which are ideal for making sure your Ring Doorbell isn’t pulled right off your door.
How Do I Physically Secure a Ring Doorbell?
The best way to make your Ring Doorbell more difficult to steal is by using a different way of mounting the Doorbell. There are a number of inexpensive ways to do this, however I would recommend using a metal mount which secures the Ring in place such as this:
By using a locking metal mount such as the “Anti-Theft Video Doorbell Mount”, you are making a potential thief’s live a heck of a lot more difficult. Unlike most plastic mounting plates that are being used today, a mount like this completely surrounds the doorbell (without blocking the camera), which means that removing the doorbell will likely need some pretty loud and heavy equipment. This should be enough of a deterrent to make any potential thieves move on, because it is no longer worth the risk.
One thing to bear in mind with this particular type of device is that the metal bar wraps around your door. Just to be extra safe, make sure that you check the measurements shown on Amazon to ensure it will be compatible with your Door. It probably will fit just fine, as the design is accommodating for a vast majority of doors in the UK.
Don’t worry if that’s not ideal for you. Alternatively, if this particular Anti-Theft Video Doorbell Mount doesn’t fit, I have a couple of other options.
Alternative Option – Best For Wide Doors
If your door is too wide, the best alternative when looking to prevent your Ring Doorbell from being stolen has to be the “Tedious Anti-Theft Mount“. If you can overlook the unusual name, this great little thing is similar to the first idea, but the housing is secured to the wall by screws instead. This is probably the best option for those of you who have a door which makes the first option a challenge to mount.
The Tedious Anti-Theft Mount also comes with the option to mount it using an adhesive, but I would not recommend this when looking to minimise the chances of having your Ring Doorbell stolen. Opt for screws if you can.
It goes without saying that this is probably the more handsome option of the two that we have covered so far, but does cost a little more as a result. This is the one to go for out of the two if you have a very wide door, which would make the first option unsuitable. One potential downside to consider with this one is whether you are willing to make a couple of screw holes in your wall to securely mount your Ring Doorbell. I personally think it’s worth it to keep my property safe, but this might not be the perfect option for everyone.
Conclusion – How to Physically Secure a Ring Doorbell
And there you have it – that’s how you too can prevent your Ring Doorbell from being taken right off your doorstep. Luckily both of the options above are fairly inexpensive and absolutely worth it if you live in an area where you feel it may be necessary to make such a precaution.
Whichever way you flip it, what you’re going to need to invest in is a mounting bracket which entirely encloses your Smart Doorbell, ideally made out of metal. There may be one or two other creative solutions, but this is the best affordable method to go with.
Let’s take a look at some common questions Ring Doorbell owners have when it comes to securing their property.
What is an Anti Theft Ring Doorbell Mount?
An anti-theft mount is simply a bracket, usually made of metal, which acts as a better way of securing your Ring Doorbell from potential theives.
How Much Does it Cost To Secure a Ring Doorbell?
Securing a Ring Doorbell physically is fairly cheap. Most secure mounts cost between £15 and £50, depending on the quality and features.
Is it Still Possible to Steal a Ring Doorbell Secured by a Mount?
Unfortunately, as with almost all security measures, it is not absolutely 100% theft-proof. But, they do make it a lot more difficult to steal, so much so that all but the most determined thieves would simply move on and give up. If secured properly, it would be near impossible to steal a properly secured Ring Doorbell without needing some pretty heavy power tools.
How Common is Ring Doorbell Theft?
I couldn’t find a conclusive statistic on this, but from anecdotal evidence and online research, it’s apparent that there most definitely are people in the UK desperate enough to try to steal Ring Doorbells from people’s homes. This is why it’s important that you make the security measures necessary to secure yours and prevent your Smart Doorbell from being stolen.
